Course Details
Control the real world from anywhere on the planet. In our final and most advanced tier, students dive into the Internet of Things (IoT). We will connect our ESP32 microcontrollers to the global internet using the Blynk Cloud platform. Most importantly, students will safely graduate from 5V LEDs to controlling real 220V AC household appliances using electro-mechanical relays, culminating in a fully automated Smart Home prototype!

- CRITICAL SAFETY SESSION: The dangers of 220V AC vs. 5V DC.
- Understanding the flow of Alternating Current (Live, Neutral, Earth).
- Establishing strict lab safety rules for handling high-voltage wires.
- Day 6 – Meet the Relay Module
- How to control massive power with a tiny 3.3V signal.
- Component Deep-Dive: Electromagnetism and the internal mechanics of a relay.
- Understanding the terminals: Normally Open (NO), Normally Closed (NC), and Common (COM).
- Hands-on: Switching a safe, low-voltage 9V motor using the relay (the "click" test).
- Day 7 – Wiring the AC Load (Supervised)
- Proper wire stripping, twisting, and securing wires into terminal blocks.
- Wiring a real 220V AC lightbulb socket through the relay module.
- Note: All AC connections are inspected by instructors before plugging into the wall.
- Day 8 – Project Build: The Smart Plug
- Merging the AC relay circuit with the Blynk Cloud code.
- Hands-on testing: Students control a real household desk lamp or fan using their smartphone app from across the room.
Phase 3: Sensor Automation & The Smart Home (Weeks 5 & 6) Focus: Moving from manual control to automated "If/Then" environmental logic.
- Day 9 – Sending Data to the Cloud
- Introduction to the DHT11 (Temperature and Humidity) Sensor.
- Wiring the sensor to the ESP32.
- Writing code to push live room temperature data up to the Blynk app.
- Displaying live data on beautiful mobile gauges and charts.
- Day 10 – Cloud Automation Rules (If/Then)
- A smart home shouldn't need a human to press buttons!
- Programming Automations in Blynk.
- Logic setup: “If the temperature goes above 30°C, turn ON the AC Relay (Fan).”
- Logic setup: “If the LDR detects darkness, turn ON the AC Relay (Lamp).”
- Day 11 – 🛠️ Final Project: The Smart Home Assembly
- Students combine multiple relays, the DHT11, and the LDR onto a multi-channel setup.
- Installing the hardware into a mini wooden/cardboard "Smart House" model.
- Finalizing the complete smartphone dashboard.
- Day 12 – Final Demonstration & Master Graduation!
- Live Smart Home demonstrations.
- Students showcase manual cloud control and automated sensor reactions.
- Evaluations, awards, and the prestigious Level 4 Master Certification!
Why Choose This Course?
- Industrial Concepts at Home: This course scales down the exact principles used in industrial SCADA systems and professional building automation.
- Practical Safety: We safely demystify high voltage, teaching students respect and correct engineering protocols for real household electricity.
- Global Connectivity: Moving beyond toys, students learn to build functional internet-connected appliances they can actually use in their own bedrooms.
Equipment Reused from Previous Levels
- Students will use the microcontrollers and basic sensors they already own to keep costs down.
Component Name | Quantity | Usage in Level 4 |
|---|---|---|
ESP32 Development Board | 1 | The main brain, providing the Wi-Fi connection to the Blynk Cloud. (From Level 3) |
USB Data Cable | 1 | For programming the ESP32. (From Level 3) |
Breadboard & Jumper Wires | Assorted | For wiring the sensors and relays to the ESP32. (From Levels 1-3) |
LDR (Light Dependent Resistor) | 1 | Used for the "darkness detection" automation rule. (From Level 1) |
New Equipment Required (The Smart Home Kit)
- These are the new components required for environmental sensing and high-voltage switching.
Component Name | Quantity | Primary Usage in Curriculum |
|---|---|---|
Relay Module (2-Channel or 4-Channel) | 1 | The electromechanical switch used to safely turn 220V AC appliances on and off using a 3.3V signal. |
DHT11 Temperature & Humidity Sensor | 1 | Collects room environment data to push to the Blynk Cloud dashboard for automated climate control. |
AC Bulb Holder (with pre-wired plug) | 1 | A standard household bulb socket with a wall plug. Students will safely cut and strip one wire to wire it into the Relay. |
LED Light Bulb (220V AC) | 1 | A standard household bulb to act as the visual "load" for the relay. (LEDs are preferred as they don't get hot during handling). |
Small AC Desk Fan or PC Fan | 1 | Acts as the second load to demonstrate temperature-based automation (e.g., Fan turns on when DHT11 reads 30°C). |
Wire Strippers / Cutters | 1 | Essential tool for safely prepping the AC wires for the relay terminal blocks. |
Electrical Tape / Heat Shrink | 1 roll | Mandatory for covering any exposed AC wire connections to prevent shocks. |
Ac phase tester | 1 | Checking live signal |
